Expert Presenters

Peer-Driven Sessions

Main Stage

Steve Pemberton

Steve Pemberton is a Chief Human Resources Officer for Workhuman and the best-selling author of A Chance In The World. An orphaned foster child, he was "given a chance" by a teacher who saw his potential. This life-changing event shaped his leadership, and in this presentation he will outline strategies to recognize hidden talent and gives each team member their best chance at success.

Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter

Retired Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter is passionate about military veterans and helping them return to the civilian workforce. During his 35-year career in the U.S. Army, he served in the trenches in both Iraq and Somalia, Ferriter also oversaw 75 Army installations and bases staffed by a 75,000-person workforce, while managing a $12-billion budget in his last role as Commanding General. His presentation will highlight ways to improve organizations, leaders and teams.

Jeff Havens

Simultaneously hilarious, poignant, and meaningful, Jeff’s session will first highlight—then poke fun at—the communication practices we're all occasionally guilty of. A masterstroke of reverse psychology, Havens' presentation gives audiences permission rather than advice. Enjoy a good laugh and learn how small changes in communication strategies can be the most important way to strengthen relationships, increase loyalty, and create an unbreakable culture of teamwork and mutual respect.

Optional Events

WERC offers a number of optional events and sessions, providing extra opportunities for learning and networking:

Embark on a narrative journey sharing the individual experiences of veterans, their families and the fallen across all branches of service and all eras of conflict. This special tour of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum pays tribute to the sacrifices of servicepersons and their families. Through dynamic, multimedia presentations and interactive exhibits, stories are relayed through photos, letters and personal effects—demonstrating the importance of individuals in shaping our history.
